Mortgages & Remortgages

  • Purchase mortgages: A large loan for the purchase of a property. Secured on the property. If you default on the mortgage you could be repossessed. APRs are dependent on the size of the mortgage, loan to value (ratio between the amount borrowed and the purchase price), personal circumstances and credit history. Maximum amount of mortgage is determined by your income and the purchase price of the property.
  • Re-Mortgages: A new mortgage to replace a purchase mortgage without moving house. Otherwise the same as a mortgage.
  • Right to Buy Mortgages: Mortgages for the purchase of property under a Right to Buy scheme, eg Council house.
  • Buy to Let Mortgages: Mortgages for the purchase of property you intend to let out rather than live in
  • Let to Buy Mortgages: Mortgages for the purchase of property you are going to live in whilst renting out your current property
  • Overseas Mortgages: Mortgages for the purchase of property in France, Spain, USA or other foreign countries. May be denominated in the foregin currency.

Loans

  • Homeowner Loans
  • Secured Loans: Loans secured on your property. If you default on the loan you *could* be repossessed. Interest rates tend to be lower than for unsecured loans.
  • Unsecured Loans: Loans granted on the basis of your personal credit history, without security. Tend towards higher APRs.

    Non-homeowner Loans
  • For tenants, people in employer's accommodation, armed services, living with parents, etc. APRs tend to be high and maximum loans are restricted to about £10k.
